SLP Mentor in My Pocket
isn't your typical SLP membership.

Let's be honest.

Courses, blogs, textbooks, podcasts, and CEU subscriptions are great. But they don't cover everything.

Those things don't help you...

  • Digest the information by asking questions well after the course ended
  • Hone your clinical decision-making skills with trusted SLP feedback
  • Bridge the gap between classroom and real life
  • Save time without digging for answers
  • Truly feel safe when asking a question

... but SLP Mentor in My Pocket does.

  • Professional topics
  • Speaking valves
  • Trach / vent
  • Voice (non-instrumental)

Chad Richardson, MS, CCC-SLP

Learn more about SLP Mentor in My Pocket

Thank you for trusting me as your no-nonsense, no-judgment mentor! I look forward to being the mentor you can call on when Google doesn't have the answers and when online forums are feeling unfriendly.

Brooke created SLP Mentor in My Pocket for three main reasons:

  1. To help you help your patients through high-quality, trusted, and at-your-fingertips mentorship for busy, stressed SLPs
  2. To support you in strengthening your clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills
  3. To provide a truly safe environment to seek guidance. Let's face it, asking questions on public forums and social media is a crapshoot: it's impossible to know who to trust, it can feel unfriendly, and it can be a waste of time when all you need is a simple answer. SLP Mentor in My Pocket eliminates all of those fears.

It's simple and fast!

All members get immediate access to the Library. The always-growing library allows us to learn from each other's questions. Win-win!

Library + Questions members can submit mentoring questions.  The video and/or written response to each question will be posted to the library as soon as possible, within 48 hours. Questions are answered in the order in which they're received.

Tap here to take a look at the dashboard.

Library: Anyone in SLP/SLT/SP. Students are always welcome to learn from the library, too.

Questions + Library: Practicing SLPs/SLTs/SPs, including clinical fellows. Students may not subscribe to Library + Questions.

SLP Mentor in My Pocket provides insights that go beyond what can be learned in a classroom or course; the goal is to help clinicians bridge the gap between theory and practice, and to help you get unstuck with tricky cases.

Our service doesn't replace coursework, and SLPs/SPs/SLTs using this service are expected to have at least foundational knowledge in the field. We may occasionally recommend courses in our responses if we feel you could use additional, formal education in a topic area.

Our mentors are practicing Medical SLPs with decades of experience caring for adults in medical settings across the continuum. They're active mentors in the SLP world, whether in clinic or online, and are consistently sought out to answer fellow SLPs' clinical questions.

While our mentors are highly qualified across diverse patient populations, they serve as primary mentors in certain topic areas to give you the best experience possible. As Mentor in My Pocket continues to grow, so will our core group of vetted mentors.

Brooke RichardsonMS, CCC-SLP is the primary mentor for the majority of topics.

Chad Richardson, MS, CCC-SLP is the primary mentor in laryngectomy / TEP.

Yes! Please note that asking a high volume of questions in a short period of time may result in a delay getting responses to some of your questions; members are encouraged to prioritize their questions.

Responses are always kind and professional. To accommodate different learning styles, responses are provided in both audio/video and written form when appropriate. Some responses may include a resource such as a download, and additional references are provided when indicated.

We offer a limited number of expedited response upgrades for those urgent situations! A response is guaranteed within 24 hours.

It's a breeze! You simply ask through your dashboard.

Not usually, as long as your question pertains to Adult Medical SLP and can be answered in this format. The more focused and specific the question, the faster the response.

We can't answer questions like those: asking us to develop a patient's plan of care; that appear to be asking the mentors to complete any portion of an assignment, presentation, project, etc.; seeming to be submitted by a group of people through one account; containing PHI; requiring an in-depth, back-and-forth conversation (1:1 consultations are a separate service that Brooke provides).

Although it's unlikely that we're unable to answer your question, if that happens we'll send you an email to discuss options and alternatives.

Yes! As long as you're directly involved in patient care, you can use SLP Mentor in My Pocket. For liability purposes, you may not submit questions asked of you by students, or ask questions directly on their behalf.

No. SLP Mentor in My Pocket is designed to provide affordable, high-quality mentoring for every member we serve. Due to the nature of our mentoring relationship, we can only accept a limited number of members at one time. Members may not share account access with, or ask questions on behalf of, other clinicians.

Nope! The beauty of asynchronous mentoring is that you can ask your question any time, and it'll be answered by a mentor at the next opportunity. It doesn’t get more convenient than that! Our mentors have decades of clinical experience working in the USA healthcare system.

The privacy and security of patients and clients is paramount. You can't ask questions containing any identifying information (PHI).

No. This service is offered for educational purposes only for practicing SLPs/SPs/SLTs. When you use Mentor in My Pocket, you agree to all terms and conditions.
